with questions, concerns, feelings and any other issues you may have.

Saturday, July 17, 1:30 p.m.
President Amy Eliezer, R.D., a Registered Dietician, led the meeting
and discussed the ideal diet for weight management and optimum
health.
Those present talked about when and how they were diagnosed and how
they manage their diet while eating out, traveling and eating
at friends' homes.
Some great baked goods by Christine Harmon and Edie Kaplan were on
hand for sale and for sampling.

Our recent meeting was held on
Saturday, June 19, 1:30 p.m. and our speaker was
Kim Slominsky, R.D. 
She is a celiac and a Registered Dietitian. She spoke about
weight control on the GF diet and answered our questions about
GF eating in general!

Our May 15 speaker
was
Maggie Glucklich, co-owner of
VEG restaurant, a vegetarian and seafood eatery, that offers a
gluten free menu. Maggie talked about her background in the
restaurant business in Sarasota. VEG is not a gluten-free facility,
but all the soups are GF except for the matzo balls. There are three
soups offered each day and two are non-dairy and
non-thickened. The breads are from Island Bakery, a strictly GF
bakery on Stickney Pt Road near the roadway to the south bridge to
Siesta. VEG is open for lunch and dinner except Monday. They have GF
pasta, coconut cream pie, and serve quinoa instead of rice pilaf.

April 17, 2010.
There was much lively discussion on how the various attendees manage
the GF diet in their homes.
Christine also talked about the GF diet and it's impact on the
health of autistic children.

Meeting
Cynthia Kupper, RD,
Executive Director of the
Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG)
will be our speaker.
Cynthia
Kupper is the Executive Director of the Gluten Intolerance Group of
North America (GIG), a national non-profit organization supporting
persons with gluten intolerances. As a clinical dietitian, she
speaks internationally on celiac disease and the gluten-free diet at
government and regulatory agency meetings, to the food and
hospitality industries, health care professionals, and patient
organizations.
As part of her work with GIG, she initiated
programs working with restaurants to provide gluten-free dining
options, and the food industry in providing third-party gluten-free
certification.
She has also published a number of papers in
peer-review journals, and authored a continuing education manual for
dietitians.

January 16, 2010
Meeting
Beth Fox, the Manager of the Whole Foods bakery
department was the the January speaker. She spoke about what GF items are offered in the bakery
department and about the GF products and set up in the
store to identify gluten free items.
Beth brought many samples with her. Some were sold to
the members and some (mixes) were taken home to be turned
into fun edibles
for the next meeting.
Beth also gave us the address of the Whole Foods Website
where we can find a list of Gluten Free items carried in

December Meeting
December 19th, 2009
The meeting featured Harriet Polejes, a long time celiac who is
handling medical issues well. She gave us the benefit of her
experiences in the medical world ("Navigating The Medical
Maze" or "The Banana Baby Grows Up").

Our November 21st meeting
featured a great
nutritionist/dietitian:
She is a Registered
Dietitian and Certified
Diabetes Educator.
She also counsels patients on the gluten
free diet.
Her topic was "Weight
Control on the Gluten Free Diet."
She is a well respected nutritionist and registered dietician, and
is
in private practice in Sarasota

John Monhollan, M.D. of the
Florida Integrative Medical Center
Dr. Monhollan spoke on the raw foods/vegetarian diet and longevity.

Frank Schwimmer, DC, spoke on "Creating the Health You've
Always Wanted" at the Sat., Sept. 19, meeting of
the Celiac Support Group of Sarasota-Manatee at Waldemere Medical
Plaza Papaya Room, 1921 Waldemere St., Sarasota.
The Celiac Support Group of
Sarasota-Manatee will hold a Gluten-Free Recipe Exchange Sat., Aug.
15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Waldemere Medical Plaza Papaya Room,
1921 Waldemere St., Sarasota. Please bring one or more copies of
your recipe. Meetings are free and open to the public. For general

The July 18th Meeting
of the Celiac Support Group of Sarasota-Manatee showcased
the following speaker:
Lydia Marsh, Health and Wellness Specialist, Publix
Supermarkets, spoke at our July 18 meeting and brought goodie bags of many of the gluten free foods that Publix
carries, along with a list of which stores carry them. She also
brought lists of the Publix brand foods that are gluten free for
us.

"The Gluten-Free
Diet and Food Resources."

THE MAY MEETING WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, THE 16TH.
Gerry Davies, MD, the owner of Lonjevity Superfood Fusion Cafe,
spoke at this meeting.
Dr. Davies spoke on Postprandial (following a meal)
Nutrition. He has long been interested in optimal nutrition and the focus at
his restaurant is on fresh and healthy ingredients creatively
prepared.
He had some wonderful information to share with our group.
