Three National Celiac Support Groups have been at the forefront of the movement to assist and support celiacs and their families, work with medical and allied health care professionals and promote advocacy and public awareness. Their web sites define the disease and offer the details needed to succeed in managing the lifetime diet. Browse all three.

Information about obtaining Low Gluten Hosts can be obtained by calling the Benedictine Sisters Altar Bread Department,(in Missouri) 800-223-2722. Their email is: altarbreads@benedictinesisters.org They state that the amount of gluten is less than 0.01 percent which, according to The Çatholic Sun, Dr. Fasano says is a perfectly safe level for celiacs, and would cause no symptoms.

From the CDF (Celiac Disease Foundation) Newsletter, Summer 2007:
ASK THE DOCTOR
Question: What follow-up care should I have after diagnosis?

Patients need follow-up after diagnosis. Symptoms that persist after commencing the diet require elucidation and appropriate treatment. Bone density should be measured because osteopenia and osteoporosis are common complications of celiac disease. Iron, folic acid, calcium and certain vitamins should be measured as there is often malabsorption of these nutrients. Certain vitamins and minerals may need to be administered, but the patient should be under a physician's guidance as to how much should be taken and for how long. Consultation with a dietitian experienced with the gluten-free diet is recommended. Many patients, especially the elderly, require a Pneumovax vaccination because hyposplenism and a resultant increased risk of pneumococcal infection is common.
Blood tests are used to monitor adherence to the gluten-free diet, as antibody levels should normalize with time. Patients with celiac disease should have at least one follow-up biopsy to confirm their response to the diet and the normalization of the biopsy sample. Patients who are non-responders, or whose clinical situation is somewhat confusing, may need more repeated biopsies at intervals.
Patients who have persistent diarrhea after starting a gluten-free diet require a more intensive evaluation to exclude other food intolerances, colitis, bacterial overgrowth or pancreatic insufficiency. All these can be adequately treated if correctly diagnosed.

Participating restaurants are able to prepare GF meals in addition to their regular meals. GFRAP is managed by the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America.

www.theceliacsite.com/gluten-free-yellow-pages.php We are unique.  The Gluten Free Yellow Pages database is centralized and searchable.   No other website or organization offers this accommodation.   Nor does any other resource offer a comprehensive list WITHOUT CHARGE. Gluten free resources and services are scattered across the web in listings, forums, and newsletters – which are not always user friendly.   This new database has now been engineered to withstand growth, adjustment, and new vision.  The past week it was adjusted to be searched according to state.

At this time, we have over 300 gluten free businesses and organizations listed in the database and it just scratches the surface. You will see that some of your favorite locations or products are not listed, though.  We have either not heard back from them or not heard of them.  Many wonderful resources have not been listed YET, as we have not received permission to do so.  Without permission we do not list anyone or link to their site.  We hope that this fact reinforces to you our commitment to work cooperatively and ethically within this community.  Tell your favorite locations about us.  Ask them to be listed.
We would also like to call special attention to the Labels for Celiac Living. These are a gift for everyone.   There are three labels that say:

The Labels for Celiac Living can be downloaded (free of charge) and printed on standard Avery Address Labels. Below is a link to something I saw in a magazine this week.  It is a “Gluten Free Patch” that can be sewn on children’s jackets or jeans.  They make them for food allergies too.  They are $13 for a three-patch package.  Kids may think these are pretty cool to wear on their clothes and they would instantly tell teachers, a restaurant server, or just spread awareness by people asking what it was.

Here are some lists that I send out every few months to the 800+ folks on my email lists here in Texas .  You might share with your folks to save as favorites on their computers.

From Country Gourmet Foods, LLC
We at Country Gourmet Foods, LLC wish to thank you for your e-mail notifying us of your concerns relating to Wolfgang Puck's soups, stocks, and broths.  We truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us.  It is because of consumers like you, who bring these sorts of issues to our attention, that we are better able to serve you.

Gluten is present in the soups that contain pasta, wheat flour or barley.  The potato and cornstarch that we use should not contain gluten unless it was put in unknowingly by the supplier, and it would only contain trace amounts (less that 1%).

Currently, the Wolfgang Puck soup varieties that DO NOT contain gluten are:  Roast Chicken with Wild Rice, Hearty Lentil & Vegetables, Chicken Tortilla, Spicy Seven Bean with Italian Sausage, Roast Chicken w/Rice & Rosemary (formerly Grilled Chicken w/Rice), Organic Thick Hearty Lentil & Vegetables, Organic Chicken with Wild Rice, Organic Creamy Butternut Squash, Organic Tortilla, Organic Spicy Bean, Organic French Onion, and Organic Split Pea, BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THE LABELS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL VARIETY BECAUSE WE OCCASIONALLY MAKE IMPROVEMENTS BY CHANGING INGREDIENTS.

All of our organic broths -- beef, chicken, and vegetable (green packaging) are gluten free.  Our All Natural Roasted Chicken Stock (red packaging) is gluten free as well.

Below is the list of Snyder's of Hanover products that are gluten-free.

Dec. 19, 2006:
We received your e-mail inquiring if our Pearl Soymilk is gluten-free.

Pearl Original Organic Soymilk is sweetened with malt syrup, that is derived from barley, which contains gluten.  Pearl Creamy Vanilla, Green Tea, Tropical Delight, Chocolate and Unsweetened Soymilk do not contain ingredients that are known to be a source of gluten.  However, they have not been tested to confirm they are gluten-free.

DISNEYLAND: My family and I ate at the PLAZA RESTAURANT in The Magic Kingdom in Orlando the week of 10/11/06. I was very pleasantly surprised. When I explained my dietary restrictions to Peggy, our waitress, she offered to have a chef use a fresh, clean pan to prepare my food, away from the other pans in the works. I enjoyed a hamburger, fresh sautéed mushrooms and onions on a bed of spring greens. Peggy also brought me carafes of olive oil and apple cider vinegar for the greens. During the meal she returned and offered me a GLUTEN-FREE BUN to go with my burger! ...Edie Kaplan
